Double Down has been volunteering in Palestine since 2019, helping run programs for Palestinian families and youth in the West Bank. On July 16th, four volunteers, using their own funds, will be leaving for Cairo to distribute essential aid to Palestinian refugees through community fundraising efforts of the past several months.

We are looking to raise life-saving funds for these families who have survived unimaginable loss and hardship in the face of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Palestine. Displaced families depend on mutual aid to survive. Despite paying thousands of dollars in evacuation fees to escape the illegal bombardment of their homes in Gaza, many of these families are denied the ability to work and feed their children after crossing the border.

All funds and essential aid will be distributed to Palestinian families that have crossed into Egypt to help these families afford rent and purchase food, clothes, medicine, and other necessities. 100% of all money raised will be distributed directly to Palestinian families.

We believe that mutual aid work is essential in the fight for Palestinian liberation and is an act of resistance against the unjust Israeli military occupation. Will you help us in our efforts to help Palestinian families stay alive?

What is happening in Gaza?

For half a century, Israel’s illegal occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip has resulted in ongoing systemic human rights violations against Palestinians. Israel’s ruthless policies of land confiscation, illegal settlements and dispossession, coupled with rampant dehumanization & discrimination, have inflicted immense suffering upon Palestinians, depriving them of their most basic human rights.

For the past 8 months, Palestinians in Gaza have endured one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time. Israel, with the support of at least $12.5 billion dollars in U.S. military aid, has killed more than 38,000 Palestinians, including over 15,000 children, with thousands more unaccounted for under the rubble. The British medical journal, The Lancet, recently issued a warning in July 2024 with a conservative estimate that the true death toll could be over 186,000 people. Due to Israel’s immense destruction of infrastructure and healthcare technology as well as the targeting of journalists and healthcare workers in Gaza, data collection has become a major challenge. As for displaced families seeking relief from the bombings, they often have little to no time to move their entire lives to ‘designated safe zones’, only for the IDF to then knowingly bomb these safe zones, targeting hospitals, schools and refugee camps, ultimately killing and displacing Palestinian families with nowhere left to go.

According to a June 2024 report from the UN, upwards of half the people in Gaza are expected to face death and starvation by mid-July. Despite these estimates, our goal is to ensure the survival of as many Palestinians as possible, focusing all our efforts towards distributing mutual aid to displaced Palestinian refugees that have escaped into Cairo.
